7 September – KUALA NERANG: One person is feared dead after a fire razed a row of eight double-storey shophouses here early this morning.
In the blaze that occurred at about 3.20am, 15 firemen who were deployed to the scene took almost an hour to bring the fire under control, and it was another two hours before they finally snuffed the fire out completely. State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Superintendent Nor Hafizah Muhammad Lukman said four fire engines from Kuala Nerang, Jitra, and Alor Star were dispatched to the scene.
As at press time, rescuers have yet to locate the missing person, identified as Low Kit Su, 72. He was believed to have been trapped in the shop when the blaze occurred.
